Seylan Bank dominated the Mercantile Knockout tournament that was held at the St. Joseph’s College Sports Complex on the 27th of June.
The team led by veteran Sri Lanka national player Tharjini Sivalingam on the offensive end and star player Shanika Dilhani on the defensive end bagged the coveted A division title while the Seylan mixed team emerged champions of the open division after a hard fought win against Nations Trust Bank. Captain Shanika Dilhani was incidentally named Netball queen while the mixed team centre Dharshaka Bandara was named the leading male player of the day.
Apart from this Commercial Bank emerged as champions of the B division, while Expo Lanka and HSBC won the C Division and D division titles respectively.
The highlight of the day would have to be the C division Finals between Expo Lanka and Citizens’ Development Bank, where the lead was exchanged to and fro, until the final whistle was blown. Expo Lanka, being the more experienced team, was able to hold onto a narrow one goal lead to clinch the match despite the best efforts of the CDB youngsters.
