Schools T20 Cricket Summary – Lumbini and Thora qualify to the semi-finals

Defending Schools T20 champions, S. Thomas’ College and Lumbini College booked their semi-final berths when they won their respective quarter-final encounters against Nalanda College and Isipathana College on 31st March. 

 

S. Thomas’ College vs Nalanda College

Thomians recorded a 26-run victory in a low-scoring affair played at FTZ grounds in Katunayake. 

Batting first after winning the toss, Thora managed to score only 79 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Left-handed Dulanja Silva stroked a fighting 28 while Ayantha De Silva was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets while leg-spinner Kavindu Bandara and seamer, Malinga Amarasinghe took 2 wickets apiece. Chasing 80 runs to win, Nalandians were very poor as they were bundled out for only 53 runs. Spinner, Nipuna Gamage captured 4 wickets giving away only 8 runs while off-break bowler, Sajana De Silva took 3 scalps.

S. Thomas’ College will take on the winner of St. Peter’s College vs Richmond College quarter-final clash in the semi-final stage.

S. Thomas’ College – 79/9 in 20 overs: Dulanja Silva 28, Ayantha De Silva 4/15, Kavindu Bandara 2/14, Malinga Amarasinghe 2/14. 

Nalanda College – 53 all out in 17.3 overs: Madushanka Gunadasa 15, Nipuna Gamage 4/8, Sanjana De Silva 3/13, Nimesh Fernando 2/6.

 

Lumbini College vs Isipathana College

Lumbini College defended 104 runs to register a hard fought 13-run win over home-town rivals, Isipathana College at FTZ grounds in Katunayake. 

Lumbini won the toss and elected to bat first, Jammika Darana was the only batsman to score over 25 runs as he made 29 runs. Seamers, Senal Deelaka and Ayana Siriwardene shared 5 wickets for Isipathana. Chasing 105 runs to win their quarter-final game, Pramod Maduwantha stroked a beautiful 40 runs while left-handed junior national cap, Salinda Ushan made 33 runs but the other batsmen failed to contribute to their cause. Spinner, Tharushan Iddamalgoda was the pick of the bowlers scalping 4 wickets for Lumbini.

Lumbini College will now face the winner of Ananda College vs St. Benedict’s College in their next knockout game.
