Schools Limited Overs – Trinity, Richmond, Lumbini, DSS, S. Thomas’ seal quarter-final berths

Top-seeded Trinity College Kandy, Richmond College Galle, Lumbini College, DS Senanayake College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia advanced to the quarter-finals of the under 19 all island limited overs tournament 2015 when they won their respective pre-quarter final encounters on Wednesday. 

Trinity College vs Mahinda College

Trinity registered a hard-fought 28-run win over Mahinda at Asgiriya Stadium.

The hosts batting first made 262 all out with right-handed Kaveen Hiniduma top-scoring with 46 while Hasitha Boyagoda chipped in with 45 runs. Sachika Udara and Tharuka Samarawickrama managed to pick up 2 wickets each. Chasing a daunting target, the visitors fell 28 runs short as Hansika Welihinda’s valiant unbeaten 70 went in vain. Left-arm spinner Duvindu Tillakaratne bagged a 4-wicket haul. 

Trinity – 262 all out in 50 overs: Kaveen Hiniduma 46, Hasitha Boyagoda 45, Arjuna Jayasinghe 31, Nushan Weerasinghe 25, Sachika Udara 2/24, Tharuka Samarawickrama 2/47.

Mahinda – 234/8 in 50 overs: Hansika Welihinda 70*, Ishara Akalanka 48, Duvindu Thilakarathne 4/32.

 

S. Thomas’ College vs Nalanda College

Thomians comfortably shrugged off the Nalandians by 104 runs at Campbell Place. 

The boys from the College by the sea posted 233 for 8 in their allotted 45 overs. Left-handed duo of Yohan Mendis (65) and Nipuna Gamage (53) struck half centuries. Skipper Malinga Amarasinghe took 2 wickets with his gentle right-arm seamers. The visitors then bowled out the hosts for a mere 129. Double-armed spinner Tharindu Rathnayake scalped 4 wickets. 

S. Thomas’ – 233/8 in 45 overs: Yohan Mendis 65, Nipuna Gamage 53, Sachitha Jayathilake 40, Malinga Amarasinghe 2/24, Kavindu Bandara 2/46.

Nalanda – 129 all out in 28.2 overs: Malinga Amarasinghe 28, Dilan Suraweera 29, Tharindu Rathnayake 4/32, Shenal De Silva 3/31.

 

Lumbini College vs St. Benedict’s College

The dark-horses in Sri Lankan Schools Cricket, Lumbini College defeated St. Benedict’s College easily by 112 runs at BRC grounds. 

The home team was restricted only to 199. Tharushan Iddamalgoda struck valuable half-ton while Jammika Darana made 44. Right-arm pacie, Geethal Fernando and off-spinner, Navod Abeysinghe took 3 wickets apiece. The Benedictines were bowled out for 87 in 28 overs. Thanuka Dabare was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets for 21 runs. 

Lumbini – 199 all out in 47.3 overs: Tharushan Iddamalgoda 59, Jammika Darana 44, Wasana Madushanka 24, Geethal Fernando 3/50, Navod Abeysinghe 3/41, Geethika Jayathilake 2/23.

St. Benedict’s – 87 all out in 28 overs: Navod Abeysinghe 18, Thanuka Dabare 4/21, Randima Lakshan 2/22, Jammika Darana 2/28. 

 

Richmond College vs Mahanama College

The Kings of South, Richmond completely thrashed Mahanama by 8 wickets at Mahinda College grounds in Galle.

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga picked up 5 wickets to rattle the visitors for 114 and later their superb top-order chased down the target in just 18.2 overs and Kamindu Mendis ended the match with a six while Wanindu chipped in with the bat too scoring 38 runs. 

Mahanama – 114 all out in 29.4 overs: Malindu Maduranga 47, Kavindu Munasinghe 20, Wanidu Hasaranga 5/20, Savin Nanayakkara 3/24, Chamod Piyumal 2/17.

Richmond – 120/2 in 18.2 overs: Sithara Gimhan 43, Kamindu Mendis 32*, Wanidu Hasaranga 38. 

 

DS Senanayake vs Prince of Wales’ College

DS Senanayake College booked the final spot in the top 8 with a clinical win of 78 runs over Prince of Wales College at Wijerama Mawatha. 

Left-handed opener, Kavin Bandara struck an elegant 91 which paved the way for DS’s score of 234. The Cambrians failed to handle the pressure as their batting were in tatters as Torin Pitigala and Shiran Muthalif shared 5 wickets amongst them. 

DS Senanayake –  234 all out in 48 overs: Kavin Bandara 91, Vishal Amugoda 58, Torin Pitigala 23, Udesh Sendanayake 21, Anjula Sahan 4/27.

Prince of Wales – 156/9 in 50 overs: Thilan Nimesh 31*, Ramesha Soysa 27, Vihanga Weerakkody 27, Torin Pitigala 3/34, Shifran Muthalif 2/15.
