The 118th Lovers’ Quarrel played between Richmond College and Mahinda College commenced today (17th March) at Galle International Cricket Stadium.

Richmond College skipper Tharinda Nirmal won the toss and invited the opposition to take the first lease of the wicket. Mahinda College opening pair Dinura Kalupahana and Pramesh Madhubhashana got their side off to a brilliant start putting on 109 runs for the first wicket.
Kalupahana went on to score a sublime half-century, helping Mahinda College strengthen their grip on the game. His 75-run knock came off 69 balls with 11 fours and a six.
After his dismissal, Mahinda College skipper Dhanuja Induwara took the baton onto his hand and stroked a fine century putting his side in a dominant position on day one. Induwara top scored for Mahinda College with a knock of 101 runs off 129 balls with 8 fours and a six as they posted 316/8 on the board before declaring the innings.
The opposition skipper Tharinda Nirmal was the pick of the bowlers for Richmond College as he bagged 3 wickets for 78 runs.

In reply, Richmond College were in a spot of bother losing their 3 top-order wickets for 74 runs at the close of play on day one.
