Isipathana College vs St. Sylvester’s College

St. Sylvester’s College Kandy put up a stunning performance to skittle out Isipathana College for just 125 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which began at the BRC ground in Havelock Park today.

The Sylvestrians despite performing away from home got accustomed to the conditions almost immediately as they ripped through the Isipathana batting with a tremendous bowling effort on the field.

Isipathana who elected to bat first after winning the toss never looked comfortable against the St. Sylvester’s spin attack of Pabasara Perera (3 for 19) and Nimesha Mendis (2 for 33) who did most of the damage with their on the spot bowling.

In fact Isipathana would have been bowled out for less than one hundred runs if not for a fighting unbeaten knock of 46 runs from their all rounder Dilanka Ranasinghe.

The middle order batsman who came into the crease during a vital stage of the game played one of his best innings in the current season to lift his team from total disaster with the support of Dinuka Shehan.

However the Isipathana bowlers were able to make an impact on the field almost immediately as they succeeded in capturing two early wickets to leave the visitors at 23 for 2.

Isipathana College: 125 (Dinuka Shehan 21, Dilanka Ranasinghe 46 n. o, Pabasara Perera 3/19, Nimesha Mendis 2/33)

St. Sylvester’s College: 23-2
