Schools Aquatic Championship Comes alive for the 42nd Occasion

The 42nd edition of the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Championships will be worked off at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex from the 18th to the 21st of June.  The premiere schools swimming competition will include 165 schools this year competing in age groups from Under 9 to Under 19.

The notable event which has had a significant increase of 700 participants in comparison to last year will be powered by Milo Sri Lanka for the 23rd consecutive year. The tournament will be carried out in its usual way with Girls and Boys categories in all age groups. A total of 164 events are scheduled to be worked off during the course of the four days which will be a compilation of 140 individual and 24 relay events. Certificates will be awarded to those who reach the qualified time in the under 11 and under 11 categories in a form of motivation to the young swimmers.

The age categories of Under 15,17 & 19 will come with a category title for the best performer and the best performing school. A total of 16 trophies await winners this weekend. Swimmers from seven provinces will take part in the swimming premierships with the exception of the North and the East.

Defending champions Mahamaya College and St. Joseph’s College will be looking to retain the title in their respective alma-maters for yet another year.

The opening ceremony will be held on June 18 at 8.00 am and the chief guest will be the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Association President Capt. Jayantha Gamage of Sri Lanka Navy. The closing ceremony will be held on June 21 at 4.00pm and the chief guest will be President Maithriepala Sirsisena. Guest of Honour will be Mrs. Shivani Hegde (Managing Directress Nestle Lanka PLC).
