School Cricket Summary: Trinity, Ananda, S. Thomas’ and St. Peter’s dominate day one

Another interesting schools cricket weekend unveiled around the island as the top teams, Trinity College, Ananda College, St. Peter’s College and S. Thomas’ College enjoyed success on day one in their respective matches in the under 19 division one tournament 2014/15. 

Trinity College vs Isipathana College 

Left-arm spinner Duvindu Tillakarathne grabbed four wickets as Trinity shut down Isipathana for 119 runs at Asgiriya Stadium.

After opting to field, Trinity fast-bowlers Pramodya Abeykoon and Lahiru Kumara took 2 wickets apiece to restrict the visitors. Isipathana batsman, Salinda Ushan fresh from his scintillating performances for the Sri Lanka under 19s, struck 43 runs to become the top run-getter. Trinity replied with 106 for 6 in 30 overs.

Chief Scores:

Isipathana College  – 119 all out in 47 overs: Salinda Ushan 34, Duvindu Thilakarathne 4/6, Lahiru Kumara 2/29, Pramodya Abeykoon 2/30.

Trinity College – 106/6 in 30 overs: Hastha Boyagoda 34. 

 

St. Peter’s College vs Royal College

Three centuries paved the way for St. Peter’s as they took the upper hand in their high-profile game against Royal College at Bambalapitiya. 

Skipper Chandula Jayamanne, Wicket-keeper batsman Lakshina Rodrigo and Didulana Medis made half-centuries for the hosts while seam bowling pair of Himesh Ramanayake and Chamika Karunarathne shared 5 wickets. Royal College was 19 for 3 at close of play. 

Chief Scores:

St. Peters College – 284 all out in 68.5 overs: Chandula Jayamanne 66, Lakshina Rodrigo 61, Didulana Medis 57, Chamika Karunarathne 3/26, Himesh Ramanayake 2/37.

Royal College – 19/3 in 13.4 overs. 

 

S. Thomas’ College vs Nalanda College 

The boys from Mount Lavinia completely ended day one in the driver’s seat as they continued their stranglehold on the hosts, Nalanda College at Campbell Place. 

The visitors, batting first raced to 286 with left-hand duo of Nipuna Gamage and Yohan Mendis stroking half-tons. Right-arm seamer Malinga Amarasinghe captured 4 wickets for the hosts. Nalanda in their reply were struggling at 26 for 5 with seamer Senal De Silva taking 3 scalps.

S. Thomas’ College – 286 all out in 60.3 Overs: Nipuna Gamage 80, Yohan mendis 50, Sachitha Jayathilake 23,Shenal De Silva 23, Tharindu Rathnayake 42, Kanishka Perera 20, Malinga Amarasinghe 4/63, Ayantha de Silva 3/47, Lakshitha Rasanja 2/29.

Nalanda College – 26/5 in 10 Overs: Senal De Silva 3/13. 

 

Ananda College vs Dharmaraja College 

Ananda battered the Rajans bowlers to all parts of the grounds in their mammoth first innings score of 311 at Ananda Mawatha. 

The hosts raced to their score in just 65 overs before declaring the innings. Nipun Chandimal and Dilanka Sandaken struck half-centuries while off-spinner Wenuka Galahitiyawa captured 4 wickets but conceded 131 runs.
