Sangakkara to skip 2014 IPL

IPL auctions it seems have omitted some big names on their list. Kumar Sangakkara is a noticeable omission we well as Micheal Clarke out of a total of 233 players named in the list for 2014. Big names of the Pakistan players are also more prominently have not made the list.

While Clarke has regularly opted out of IPL, Sangakkara has been a regular feature. The prolific Sri Lanka test batsman who has been hovering on the top rankings of the ICC test ratings, has not always had the best of outings in the IPL competitions. It is not known if Sangakkara has opted out or not made the list, however there is also the possibility that Sri Lanka cricket will push its players to attend the England tour in May which has on two previous occasion clashed with the IPL and players have opted for IPL. This issue has had a lot of fans voicing their displeasure and put SLC in a spot.

From the player list  released to the franchises by IPL governing body, 46 players each were from India and Australia while there were 39 Sri Lankans and 29 West Indians on the list.

On the issue of the non-inclusion of Pakistan players, franchise representatives have been reported telling the Mumbai Mirror: “It is not surprising. That has been the trend of late, anyway. The presence of the Pakistan players creates security concerns for the team and there is no guarantee that the franchises would be willing to buy them if they are in the auction.”

It has also been reported that the base prices for the players issued by the IPL governing council stands at a minimum price is Rs 30 Lakhs while the maximum base price is Rs 2 Crore.

While Indian players Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Karthik and Amit Mishra and some others enjoy the 2 Crore bracket, international players  like Jacques Kallis, Mitchell Johnson, Kevin Pietersen and Brendon McCullum are also reported as receiving same. T20’s top ranked batsmen Alex Hales has also been slotted into the 2 Crore group while New Zealand sensation Corey Anderson bagged himself a base price of Rs 1 Crore.

The IPL GC is said to be announcing  the list of uncapped players available for the auction soon and is likely to range from Rs 30-10 lakhs according to  the Mumbai Mirror.

Australia: George Bailey, Brad Haddin, Brad Hodge, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc.

England: Alex Hales, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum

South Africa: Jacques Kallis

Sri Lanka: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews. 

West Indies: Marlon Samuels.
