S. Thomas’ College wins Nationals Schools Tennis title‏

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia won the Nationals Schools Games Boys’ title for the for the first time on Sunday at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, Colombo, beating St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya.

The unseeded Thomians beat third seeded Ananda in the quarter-finals, second seeded Royal in the semi-finals and the top seeds and defending champion Peterites, 2-1 in the final.

This was the first time that S. Thomas’ even qualified for the final of this event, which has been conducted for over 20 years. The Thomians were captained by Venuka Hulangamuwa, while Avishka Perera was his deputy.

N. Nadarajah (SPC) beat Amandha Gunawardene (STC), Venuka Hulangamuwa and Avishka Perera (STC) beat Chehan Fernando and Sanjiv Mohankumar (SPC) and Jerique Rajapakse (STC) beat Nabeel Sabri (SPC).
