Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Rumesh Rathnayake has been appointed as head coach of Sri Lanka ‘A’ team for the upcoming Pakistan ‘A’ team’s tour of Sri Lanka commencing on 28th October.

Rathnayake has previously worked as national cricket team’s head coach and fast bowling coach. He has also played the role of Sri Lanka ‘A’ team coach on two previous occasions. Rathnayake currently works as a fast bowling coach at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) High Performance Centre at R. Premadasa Stadium.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is scheduled to host Pakistan ‘A’ for 2 Four Day Games and 3 ODIs. Pakistan ‘A’ will arrive in Sri Lanka on the 21st October 2021, and the tour will take place in a Bio-Bubble Environment.

The two four-day games will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium while the venues for the 3 ODIs are yet to be decided. The three one-day matches are most likely to be played in Colombo.

Sri Lankan red-ball specialists Test Captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne, Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Embuldeniya and Angelo Mathews are likely to be named in Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad for the 2 four day games as preparation for the Windies series which is expected to be played from 21st November to 2nd December in Galle.
