Royal College, Colombo beat Trinity College, Kandy for the second consecutive year by innings and 58 runs, at Reid Avenue.

The game which was to be played as a tournament game was announced a friendly game as a result of Trinity College, Kandy refusing to include it as a tournament fixture. However, the second oldest inter school match which was the last game to be played this season at Reid Avenue saw the hosts winning the toss and electing to bat. The Royal team put on a mammoth 309 runs for the loss of 9 wickets before declaring and inviting the Lions to face leather. Geeshath Panditharatne and Naveen Nimesh made 75 and 74 runs respectively while the Himesh Ramanayake notched up a quick fire 51 runs remaining unbeaten on 51 runs. Trinity wonder boy of last year Raveen Sayer picked up 4 wickets in the bowling department.

Royal College 1st Innings – 309/9 d

The game seemed to be more of a practice game ahead of the Big Match at the end of the first day with Royal batting the whole day. Things weren’t so the second day as the Trinity line up literally collapsed. They were bundled up for a mere 146. Kaveen Hiniduma only having made a respectable contribution of 54 runs. Lasith Ambuldeniya worked his left arm magic to capture 4 of the Trinity wickets.

Trinity College 1st Innings – 146 all out

Having asked to follow on the Trinitians weren’t able to avoid the outcome of the 1st innings. It was another disastrous innings for the visitors from the hill capital as Ambuldeniya once again spun away to capture another 4 wickets ending with a match bag of 8. The Trinity innings ended at a paltry 105 runs.

Trinity College 2nd Innings – 105 all out

With this win Royal College have recorded 3 wins in the past 4 games played evidently peaking at the correct time ahead of the big game against S.Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia to be played in two weeks’ time.
