Royal – Mahinda clash for the 21st time

Royal College, Colombo and Mahinda College, Galle will clash for the 21st time for the prestigious “Albert Edirisinghe Challenge Trophy” on the 23rd of October at the Race Course Stadium.

The tournament was inaugurated in year 1984 by Mr. Albert Edirisinghe of Albert Edirisinghe Opticians Ltd, an Old boy of Mahinda College, and his sons Mr. Gamini Edirisinghe and Mr. Janaka Edirisinghe who are the old boys of Royal College.

1959456_10153297148579251_7580467322750566321_nDuring that year, Mr. C.T.M. Fernando was the Principal of Royal College and Mr. C.K. Waidyaratne was the Principal of Mahinda College. The Royalists were led by Mr. Darshana Perera while the Mahindians were captained by Mr. Priyantha Kumara with Mr. S.J. Maranthota and Mr. B.P. Kiringoda being the Masters-In-Charge of the two schools respectively.

The Challenge Trophy was revived for the 20th occasion last year after a lapse of 20 years, where Royal defeat Mahinda with an aggregate score of 3-0. Royal beat Mahinda 2-0 in the 1st leg with a 1-0 win at home on the return leg.

Royal College will be led by Tahiru Gunasekara, while the Mahinda College will be captained by Akeesha Deemantha.

The 1st leg of the “Albert Edirisinghe Trophy” will be played at Colombo Racecourse Stadium, Colombo 07 on the 23rd October, 2015 from 3.00 pm onwards, while the 2nd leg will be held on the 07th November, 2015 at the Mahinda College, Galle.
