Maris Stella and Walala A. Rathnayake triumph at thrilling Ritzbury Relay Carnival

The highly anticipated Ritzbury All Island Schools Relay Carnival, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association and sponsored by leading chocolate brand Ritzbury, reached its thrilling conclusion at the Sugathadasa Stadium on the 26th of June 2023.

Over the course of three exhilarating days at the Sugathadasa Stadium, young athletes showcased their skills and determination. Maris Stella College of Negombo claimed the overall Boys’ Championship, while Walala A. Rathnayake Central College emerged victorious in the Girls’ category, leaving a lasting mark on this highly anticipated sporting event. 

The third and final day of the festival brought forth the much-anticipated 100x4m Relay Finals. In the Under 12 category, the boys from St. Peter’s College, Colombo showcased their speed and precision, securing the Championship title with an impressive time of 55.5 seconds. 

Loyola College Negombo displayed remarkable coordination and swiftness, winning the Under 14 race with a time of 50.0 seconds. Meanwhile, the Under 16 Boys’ competition witnessed a thrilling performance from the Maris Stella team of Negombo, crossing the finish line in an impressive 44.7 seconds. 

Trinity College, Kandy secured victory in the Under 18 category, clocking a swift time of 44.6 seconds. Along with them, the Matara Rahula team dominated the Under 20 race, clocking an impressive time of 42.6 seconds. 

The Girls’ 100m races were filled with excitement and fierce competition. In the Under 12 category, Galle Southlands sprinted to victory with a time of 1:00.3 minutes. Pannipitiya Dharmapala College showcased their speed and agility, clinching the Under 14 title with a remarkable time of 54.5 seconds. 

The Under 18 Girls’ 100×4 relay witnessed a thrilling race, with Lyceum College, Wattala displaying exceptional teamwork and speed, securing victory in a time of 50.4 seconds. In the Under 20 category, it was the team from Walala A. Rathnayake Central College who emerged victorious, setting an impressive time of 49.0 seconds. 

Walala A. Rathnayake Central College’s Under 20 Women’s team left an indelible mark on the Ritzbury All Island Schools Relay Carnival. Throughout the tournament, they showcased remarkable performances, clinching victories in the 100×4, 400×4, 800×4 and Medley Relay races. The team’s exceptional teamwork, coupled with the outstanding performance of young athlete Tharushi Karunaratne, propelled them to success and cemented their position as the dominant force in their category.
