An impressive bowling effort by Waruna Deshapriya and an imposing top order batting helped Richmond gain control of their U-19 School cricket match against hosts St. Joseph’s at Darley Road today.

 

Deshapriya ran through the innings claiming 6 for 63 to bowl out hosts for 202 runs in the first innings before Sithara Gimhana with a fine half century (54) and an unbeaten 39 by Wanindu Hasaranga helped them for 134 for 3 at close on day one. 

The hosts got off to a worst possible start losing both their openers for 2 runs but recovered well to put on a decent score thanks to some resolute batting efforts by the middle and late order. Aravinda Akurugoda was the top scorer for Josephians with 51 while Pathum Madhusanka made 44. R

Richmond had an imposing start to their  innings as openers S Gimhana and K Nanayakkara shared a quick-fire 76 for the first innings in 14.4 overs. Gimhana had seven boundaries and two sixes in his 57 ball 54.
