The resurrected relay carnival, held after a lapse of 16 years concluded in glamorous fashion today at the Bogambara Stadium. The closing ceremony took place with Mr. Asoka Senadeerain attendance as the chief guest. The closing ceremony included all the participant school’s bands and the marching squads participating in a parade.

3560 students from over 300 schools competed in 5 Age groups (U13, 15, 17, 19 & 21) throughout the 03 Days, giving arise to some exciting Relays throughout all the categories.Today on the third day of the Carnival, 24 finals were carried out with a total of 72 medals being won by Athletes from all across the Island in all the age groups.

Eventually Walala A. Rathnayakewon the girls champions trophy with 91 points under their belt with St.Joseph’s Balika and Sir John Kothalawala Kurunegala ending with 54 and 48 points respectively to come second and third. St. Benedict College won the Boy’s Champion trophy with 73 points to their name followed by Trinity and Walala A. Rathnayake.

The third day kicked off with the 4x1500m’s that took place in the early morning where all the age groups were won by Walala A. Rathnayake with somewhat of an ease.

The fast running and more exciting 4x200m’s followed them up, with Musaeuscollege and Ambangamuwa C.C clinching the winning medals after some exciting displays of running. The boy’s 200m were won by St. Benedicts College Colombo.

The Medley relays kicked off the evening session. These relays were won by various schools’ across various age groups, namely St. Benedicts, Nalanda Colombo, St.Joseph’s Balikakegalle, Walala A. Rathnayaka.

The last of the events in the Relay Carnival 2016 were the 4x400m’s.The U17 was won by Trinity college Kandy after a close battle with Berewattes’ college. The rest of the winners were St.Benedicts, Nalanda College, St.Joseph’s Balikakegalle.

Awards were distributed to the champion schools Girls and Boys under every category (U13 U15 U17 U19 & U21).
