Rashmika Opatha sparkles for S. Thomas’ with a ton

Former Sri Lanka under 19 player, Rashmika Opatha made an astounding century to help S. Thomas’ College take major honours in their drawn match against Richmond College which ended on Wednesday at Mount Lavinia.

Right-handed top-order batsman consumed 142 balls for his brilliant knock of 124 which helped the hosts bat out on day two to salvage some pride after they lost on first-innings. Opatha stroked 10 elegant boundaries and 3 sixes as he was involved in a 121-run stand with Ravindu Tillkarathne for the 4th wicket where left-handed Ravindu contributed with 53.

Thomians ended the match on 257 for 8 in their second innings. Earlier on day one, they were bundled out for 123 with Avindu Theekshana capturing 5 scalps for 24 runs. Skipper Sachitha Jayathilake made a fighting 51.

Richmondites in their reply made 171 all out after being 160 for 8 overnight. Kavindu Ediriweera top-scored with 43 while Dineth Kannangara and Dellon Peiris shared 6 wickets amongst them.
