Thurstan College thrashed Nalanda College by 6 wickets in a Singer-cup traditional encounter which was worked off today at Thurstan grounds.

Thurstan College were bowled out for 167 in the morning session, having a 29 run lead. The visitors came out to bat in the second innings hoping to put up a solid batting effort, but Naveen Gunawardane was outstanding with his left-arm spin as he captured 6 wickets for 34 runs to complete a match-bag of 10 wickets. Nalanda College made only 110 runs in the second innings as they got dismissed before tea break. Chasing a victory target of 82 the Thurstanites were able to cross the line with 6 wickets intact. Right handed Kasun Abeyrathne anchored the innings for the home team with an unbeaten 48 runs.

Mahanama College vs Wesley College

Wesley College took major honours against Mahanama College in a group C game which ended today at Campbell Park. The visitors managed only 60 runs in the first innings, while the home team secured first innings points as they got bowled out for 153. However Mahanama College posted 302 in the second innings thanks to Malindu Maduranga and Heshan Hettiarachchi who made half tons for the visitors. Hashan Sandeepa captured 5 wickets for Mahanama College as the hosts lost 7 wickets in the fourth innings for 86 runs at close of play.

St. Sylvester’s College dominated the drawn game against Zahira College in a traditional encounter which was worked off today in Gampola. Nadeera Balasuriya guided the home team with a classy 76 runs to ensure the first innings win as they posted 282 for 9 wickets. The visitors made 279 earlier in the game thanks to a magnificent century by Sajith Sameera.

DS Senanayake College registered first innings points against Gurukula College in a group C game which ended today at Maththegoda Army grounds. The lads from Kelaniya came ever so close to the target as they fell short by 3 runs to secure first innings points.  Gurukula College made only 213 as Muditha Lakshan grabbed 5 scalps for DS Senanayake College. Vihan Gunawardane made another half-ton to follow up his century in the 1st innings to end the day at 157 for 5 wickets.
