The cozy suburbs of Moratuwa is where Pipinya, Sri Lanka’s pickleball pioneers, welcome pickleballers of all levels of skill to lay it all out on the court as they get ready to host the island’s first-ever pickleball tournament on 20 and 21 April. Although a recently introduced sport in Sri Lanka, pickleball mashes tennis, table tennis, and badminton for a uniquely active game.

Pipinya opened the courts to players on 27 January 2024 with intentions of building a community of sports enthusiasts and to promote active, healthy living and hope to introduce more racquet sports such as beach tennis in the future.

The three pickleball courts – 1 outdoor and 2 indoors – are available on single player and cull court basis on every Tuesday to Sunday. Regardless of the level of skill, all players have access to Pipinya trainers dedicated to ensure that players understand the game, play within the given parameters and keep having fun at every turn. Another convenient feature is that Pipinya offers racquets and balls to all players from day one.
