After a disappointing performance last week St Peter’s bounced back with an innings and 66 run victory over Prince of Wales.  
POW hosted St Peter’s College in their Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament this weekend. The visitors, after disappointing performance in the previous match against St Sebastian’s, had to turn things around as we are getting close to the knockout rounds.

Peter’s won the toss and elected to bat first. This time around their batters fired and they managed to put up a formidable first innings total. Anishka Perera scoring his second century for this season contributing with an elegant 106 runs in the top order. It was a team effort with almost all the batsmen chipping in with good scores. Ranmith Jayasena with 78 runs and skipper Vinu Mohotti with a quick fire unbeaten 57 runs were few of them. The visitors piled up 386 for the loss of 7 wickets in 83.5 overs before they decided to declare. Sanjaya Fernando and Ravindu Janith picked up two wickets each for the home side.

POW came into bat in the third session of the first day. The Peterites did not let the hosts settle down as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Vinu Mohotty with a fifer helped his team to bundled out POW for 123 runs in 38.2 overs. POW was asked to follow on and before lunch on day 2 they 43 for the loss of 1 wicket trailing by 220 runs.

POW showed resistance but it only lasted 66.3 overs before the visitors wrapped things up. The hosts resistance was lead by Kasun Ekanayake who scored a resolute 97 runs, missing out on a well deserved century. Vinu Mohotty, coming back to wicket taking form, ended with match figures of 8 for 126. Ultimately POW was bowled out for 197 runs giving St Peter’s an innings and 66 run victory,  a much needed one for the peterites going ahead into the business end of the season.
