Peterites off spinner Taneesha Weerakoon  grabbing his first ten wicket haul  and steered his team to their 6th outright victory.

After a frustrating rain effected match against Bens, St. Peter’s got back into winning terms in style on their match against Dharmashoka College at Maggona. Toss was won by Dharmashoka and they elected to bat first. Their only hope was their batters would get a good score against the strong bowling line up of St Peter’s. Their hopes didn’t last long as the wickets started to rattle one after the other. In all the matches which was won by St Peter’s it was the spinners who made the opposition batters dance according to their tune, but this time it was their speedster Randel Seneviratne who put the early brakes in Dharmashoka’s first innings. In his comeback match he took a fifer and proved that St. Peter’s is not only dependent on their spinners, he finished with figures of 5 for 29. The spotlight was taken away from Randel by off spinner Taneesha Weerakoon who undoubtedly made the difference in the match in the end. In the first innings he had figures of 5 for 34 and he was not done yet. With the bat for Dharmashoka Sachin Divangana was the top scorer with 33 runs.

St Peter’s came on to bat in the second session of day one. Their intentions were very clear as they scored their runs at a brisk pace. Their top order flourished yet again, both their openers chipped in with quick fire cameos and the middle order did the rest.  Elegant left handed batsman Hashan Wanasekara top scoring with 74 runs while Sachin Dalpadathu continuing his good form from the recent matches scored 69 runs. St Peter’s declared innings at 241 for 9 in 54 overs. With the ball for Dharmashoka College Anjana Marvan grabbed 4 for 42 helping his team to control the run flow and to restrict this strong in form batting line up to a manageable score.

Dharmashoka came on to bat for their second innings having to bat one whole day against this lethal bowling attack of St. Peter’s. They never looked like they were gonna make it as their wickets started to fall just like in their first innings. Taneesha Weerakoon bagging 6 wickets for just 30 runs, his first ten wicket haul and the only player to take a ten wicket haul for St Peter’s College this season. He bowled in tandem with left off spinner Ashanth Malka who took the rest of the wickets by giving away only 32 runs. St Peter’s took only 29.5 overs to take the ten wickets and they only gave away 100 runs. Match ended just before lunch on day two giving Peterites a victory of an innings and 36 runs.
