Peterites hold high riding Joseph Vaz with wins for De Mazenod and Lumbini

Thrilling draw at City League

In a thrilling encounter at the City League grounds St.Peter’s College held the much fancied Joseph Vaz to a 2-2 draw.

The Peterites took the lead twice and threatened to create an upset but the Joseph Vaz lads equalized in the second half to salvage a point. The Bambalapitiya lads took the lead early in the first half but Joseph Vaz made it 1 all heading into halftime.

It was the same script in the second half with Joseph Vaz from Wennapuwa coming back to draw the game. S,Peter’s were unfortunate not to walk away with a deserved win as they were the better side and had a couple of opportunities for more goals.

Lumbini put 4 past Hindu College

It was a good win for Lumbini at Hindu College grounds when they beat home team Hindu College by 4 goals to nil. The Lumbini forwards combined well and played to a plan and they stuck twice in the first half to lead 2-0 at the half time.

After the break too they found the net twice sealing the victory for them at the Kotmale Chox under 19 football Championship conducted by Football Federation of Sri Lanka. Lumbini College played good football against the strong Hindu College side and has shown they can battle it out with the best.

Close win for De Mazenod

Kandana De Mazenod had a narrow escape at Kelaniya football complex when they beat Overseas School of Colombo by 3 goals to 2. The Mazenodians were leading 1- 0 at the lemons but Overseas school surprised many with their game and were unlucky not to score in the opening half.

It was an expansive game in the second half with end to end football which thrilled the crowd. Both sides traded goals but in the end De Mazenod did just enough to scrape out a draw. De Mazenod coming out for the first time had a tough game as the OSC played a well constructive game to a plan.

Relatively unknown Overseas school of Colombo has taken the schools’ football by storm with impressive performances with a win against Ananda, a draw against Nalanda and now a close loss against one of the better football schools in the country.  

Kotmale Chox championship is now getting in to a tough competitive mood and the schools are playing football in the true spirit to make a claim in the championship.
