Left-arm spinner and second year player, Pavith Rathnayake took a 10-wicket match bag as S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia started off their 2016/17 under 19 division 1 cricket season recording an innings and 124 runs win over Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya today.

The Palians hosting this traditional encounter commenced day two on 40 for 3 after the visiting Thomians blasted 339 for 7 yesterday as Ishen Perera and Manthila Wijerathne slammed excellent centuries.  

Right-arm medium fast-bowler Dinura Gunawardena and Rathnayake captured 3 wickets apiece as they bundled out the home team to 111 in the opening session on day two. The Thomians enforced the follow-on and went home for tea as the Palians once again faltered with the bat, bundled out for just 104.

Rathnayake bowled a mesmerizing spell to take 7 for 47 while his left-arm spin twin, Dellon Peiris picked up 2 wickets. Hashantha Vishvajith top scored with 30 for the losing team.

This is Dharmapala College’s second consecutive loss in the current season as they went down to Prince of Wales’ College last week.

The Thomians will next take on the Cambrians in their traditional encounter on 22nd and 23rd of September at Mount Lavinia.

Trinity College vs St. Servatius’ College

Trinity College managed to get first-innings points against St. Servatius’ College in their drawn encounter which concluded today at Asgiriya Stadium.

The hosts were bowled out for 188 yesterday and the visitors were 77 for 4 at stumps on day one. Left-arm spinner Vimukthi Nedumal picked up 4 wickets to rattle the St. Servatius’ middle order as they were restricted to 166. Sri Lanka U19 player Thilan Prashan made a fighting knock of 53 but the left-arm bowling brigade, Nedumal, skipper Shanogeeth and Thisaru Dilshan shared 9 wickets amongst them.

The Trinitians fared well with the bat in their second innings as youngster Kalana De Zoysa and Vice-captain Hasitha Boyagoda stroked unbeaten half-centuries.
