The 15th World Championships in Athletics (IAAF) is scheduled to start on tomorrow (22nd of August 2015) in Beijing, China at the Beijing National Stadium. This event will take place from the 22nd to 30th of August.
About 153 nations are scheduled to participate for this championship. From Sri Lanka there are only two participants and that will be in the men’s and women’s marathon events. They are Anuradha Cooray and Niluka Geethani Raajasekara. Even though the schedule shows 24 athletics event, Sri Lanka has sent only two representatives.
Tomorrow which is the very first day of the championships, the male marathon final will be worked off where Anuradha Cooray will run at 5.05am Sri Lanka time. The women’s marathon event will take place on the 30th at about 05.00 a.m Sri Lankan time.
