Old Bens SC celebrate scoring a goal

Old Bens came back after conceding an early goal to take the game 4-2 against New Star SC at Longdon place in the 2016 Premier League Division I group ‘A’ game.

Old Bens in their all green strip kicked things off, however it was the team on the opposite end which struck the first blow.

In the 6th minute Nizam Safan launched an inch perfect through ball to the feet of Mohamed Fasith who took it down beautifully and bundled the ball into the back of net.

Regardless of their early break though New Star were unable to capitalize on it as the team in green managed to get back into it with persistent possession.

Chandran Jayakumar whipped in a perfect in swinger to which Chamod Dilshan got on top to head his team level on the 21st minute.

With the gathered momentum the lads in green did not want to let off the pace in their game as they took the lead before lemons.

Disal Senadhi was on the end of a weak defensive clearance as he took aim to the top corner to give his team a well deserved second on the stroke of 35th minute.

The Old Bens lads scored a carbon copy of their first goal as Jayakumar and Chamod combined once again to take a 3-1 lead from a corner taken from the right flag.

The second half saw New Star step their game up to get back into the tie. Yet their lack of edge and clinical finishing seem to haunt them.

However, New Star were handed a life line as the duo of Fasith and Mohamed Anas combined to make the score line 3-2 as Anas left the opposition keeper rooted after getting on to the end of Fasith’s through ball.

With the momentum seemingly shifting towards New Star, Old Bens latched onto a highline played by New Star as Stehan Pille got on the end of Old Bens star player Asela Tharanga on the stroke of the 72nd minute.

The game drew to a close in a rather dissapointing manner as frustration set into the team in Blue with their passes lacking direction and trajectory.

Asela Tharanga was the stand out player of the game as he weaved his way past players throughout the game opening up opportunities for his team mates.
