In their fresh attempt at finding talent among the provinces, the Samaposha North-Central Provincial Sports Meet 2019 concluded with Royal College Polonnaruwa being crowned as overall team champions.
A number exceeding 3,300 student athletes participated in this inaugural meet from 260 odd schools in the North-Central province. While 116 individual and team events were carried out during the 4 days of competition (11th – 14th July), 34 new Provincial records were established.
The Boys’ Championship trophy was won by Anuradhapura Central College while Royal College Polonnaruwa emerged runners-up. Walisinghe Harischandra Maha Vidyalaya finished third.
In the Girls’ category, Royal College Polonnaruwa clinched the Girls’ Championship award. Swarnapali Balika Maha Vidyalaya finished 2nd while Anuradhapura Central College was placed third.
The North Central Province Sports meet is a part of a series of separate sports meets being held in the Uva, North-Central, Eastern and North Western Provinces, powered by CBL Samaposha in collaboration with the Provincial Educational offices.
The meets will be conducted independently through the month of July in each of the above provinces.
The North Western Province Overall championship was won by St. Peter’s College and Newstead College Negombo.
