The eagerly anticipated Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections might come to a temporary halt after the new Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha found the calling for an Annual General Meeting (AGM) was not according to the constitution at SLC.

“Nidahas Trophy profited Rs. 900 million for SLC” – Sumathipala

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), President Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala has expressed his elation at the success…

The 27th of April was supposed to be the final day for the submission of nominations, after SLC led by President Thilanga Sumathipala earlier confirmed the date of the election as 19th of May.

According to an ex-official at SLC, the Sports Minister wanted the ‘Election Committee’ to be appointed by the members at an AGM, but that particular committee was appointed by the Executive Committee of SLC with the permission from the ministry which is against the constitution. Therefore he insisted on having an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and then decide on the ‘Election Committee’  before going ahead with the elections at SLC.

There is another school of thought that the Sub-Committee can be appointed by the Executive Committee.
