Neil Foote to coach and Weeraratne to captain Kandy this year

Kandy SC the local club rugby giants who have been dominating the inter club rugby arena for sometime now have appointed Trinity College coach Neil Foote as the head coach for the upcoming season. 

ThePapare.com speaking to the President of the club Dr. Sarath Kapuwatte confirmed the appointment of the Kiwi coach and said that he will be contracted for a period of 6 months starting from September to February. 

The New Zealander has been the ‘think tank’ behind Trinity rugby over the last couple of years. Under Foote, Trinity managed to win the inter school knock out tournament in 2011 and and ended as league and knock out runners up the following year. 

Neil Foote was first-five for the Wairarapa-Bush rugby team for much of the 1990s earning 65 caps.

The Kandy team who have started individual and gym training will commence with Foote this Saturday (19th January). 

Gayan Weeraratne to captain Kandy this year 

The former Kingswood College (2007) deputy skipper and long standing Kandy SC center Gayan Weeraratne has been appointed as the captain for the upcoming 2013 season which is scheduled to start in October. 

Weeraratne is a regular player in the National side, playing both sevens and 15 aside rugby. He takes over from Kandy SC full back and National player Saliya Kumara. 

The former Sr Lanka under 20 skipper is one of the most gifted three quarters in the country having played for Kandy SC from 2007.
