Avishka Fernando slammed a half-century as Team Colombo took the upper hand against Team Jaffna on day 3 of their 4-day encounter of the National Super League 2023, played today (04th February) at Pallekele.

After being 171/7 at stumps on day 2, the Jaffna Team were bowled out for 199 in the morning session on day 3. The ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Rathnayake was the best bowler on show for Colombo as he picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs.
The veteran speedster Nuwan Pradeep also chipped in with a crucial spell of 3 for 50 runs. In reply, the Colombo Team got off to an excellent start thanks to their opening pair Avishka Fernando and Heshan Fernando, who added 98 runs for the first wicket.
However, after the dismissals of the opening duo in two consecutive overs, Team Colombo witnessed a major batting collapse, losing 6 wickets for 67 runs and being restricted to 165/6.
The wicket-keeper batter Manoj Sarathchandra and Prabath Jayasuriya gave some stability to the Colombo innings, putting an unbeaten 45-run stand for the 7th wicket as they ended third day’s play at 210/6.
The Skipper Fernando was the top scorer for Team Colombo as he made 62 runs off 84 balls with 8 fours, while seamer Lahiru Madushanka impressed with the ball for Team Jaffna, taking 2 for 21 runs.
Dambulla vs Kandy
The other encounter between Dambulla and Kandy was completely washed out for the third consecutive day at Dambulla International Cricket Stadium due to inclement weather conditions.
