Squads announced for NSL four day tournament

Sri Lanka Cricket has released the squads for the inaugural National Super League Four Day Tournament 2022 which begins on the 24th of February.

The up-and-coming youth in the Sri Lankan domestic arena have been trusted to lead the five teams in this tournament. Accordingly, the Colombo team will be led by Sammu Ashan, Jaffna will be led by Sadeera Samarawickrama, while Galle is to be skippered by Dhananjaya Lakshan and Dambulla and Kandy teams will be captained by Minod Bhanuka and Kamindu Mendis respectively.

The squads have been selected from the 26 teams that take part in the Major League Club Tournament which have been divided into each of these five teams. Therefore, Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and Galle have 5 clubs each from which the players are selected while Dambulla has 6 clubs to pick players.

The following are the cluster of clubs for each team,

Colombo – SSC, Saracens SC, Negombo CC, Sebastianites C&AC, Police SC

Kandy – NCC, Chilaw Marians CC, Ace Capital CC, Air Force SC, Kandy Customs CC

Jaffna – Tamil Union C&AC, Ragama CC, Lankans CC, KTC, Bloomfield C&AC

Galle – Colts CC, Army SC, Panadura SC, Galle CC, Moors SC

Dambulla – CCC, BRC, Navy SC, Badureliya SC, Kurunegala YCC, Nugegoda S&WC

About 100 players will be selected for this tournament by the National Selection Committee.

Players who are on tour with the national team for the 3 T20Is in India and the ones selected for the upcoming Test matches against India will play in this tournament upon their arrival back to the Island.

The tournament is scheduled to be played in five International venues in Sri Lanka and will be played from the 24th of February to the 10th of April 2022. All games will be played behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment.

The semi-finals of this tournament will be played on the 31st of March at Pallekele International Stadium and the MRICS in Sooriyawewa. The finals will be staged from the 7th to 10th April at the picturesque Galle International Stadium.
