Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy and St. Peter’s College walked away as National School Games champions after three days of fierce action at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex.

With over 20 teams in contention in the Girls’ category, Mahamaya Girls College Kandy finally got back their mojo at this year’s National Schools Games, defeating the recently crowned All Island Schools champs Visakha Vidyalaya by a comfortable margin.

St. Peter’s College has had a stellar year in the sports department this year and to add to their winnings, they walked away with a win over the powerful Josephians at the end of day 3.

Mahamaya Girls College collected a total of 127 points to clinch the top spot over Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya who finished second with 94 points. St. Bridget’s Convent finished third with 59 points. Visakha Vidyalaya could only manage a 7th place finish with a total of 24 points, which is surprising by their standards.

St. Peter’s College with 109 points on the board beat arch rivals St. Joseph’s College for the top spot. The Josephians amassed 93 points to grab silver while Ananda College finished third with 69 points.

Visakha Vidyalaya had one sliver of joy in Ramudi Samarakoon who walked away with the Girls’ Individual title while youngster Chris Pavithra of St. Peter’s College was awarded with the Boys’ title.
