The first aquatic event of the year 2023, the National Age Group Relay Championships, was won by the Anandians and the girls from Lyceum International School, Wattala.
Ananda College won the Championships with a total of 158 points, and Lyceum, Wattala with 144 points. In contrast, last year’s champions of the Boys and Girls categories, Joes and Visakha, finished as Runners-up.
The Lyceum swimmers were able to win the gold in 3 Medley relays out of the 6 age groups while finishing in the top 8 in all other age groups, including freestyle relays. Lyceum was guided to the top by Coach Imran Mohamad. At the same time, Ananda College clinched golds in Medley and Freestyle relays for both the Under 17 and Under 20 age groups. Ananda Swimming is handled by Coach Nishantha Kumarapperuma.
Additionally, the first open water event of the year, the National 5km Open Water Sea Swim, will be held tomorrow at Balapitiya with the participation of 59 swimmers from 13 clubs and schools.
