Bangladesh have decided to retained Najmul Hossain Shanto as Test captain for one more year, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday (June 4).

The series will also mark the beginning of Bangladesh’s journey in the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das returns to the squad after missing the previous series due to injury. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain, who last played international cricket in July 2023, has also made a comeback. Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad and right-arm pacer Nahid Rana have been recalled as well.

From the squad that featured in the recent home Test series against Zimbabwe, three players have been dropped: left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy.

“Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has been retained as Bangladesh’s Test captain for another year, continuing in the leadership role he assumed in 2024. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also continues as the vice-captain, maintaining the leadership pairing that led the team in the previous season,” BCB said in a statement on Wednesday while announcing the Test squad.

The first Test will be played in Galle from 17 June, while the second match is scheduled to commence in Colombo on 25 June. The Bangladesh team will depart for Sri Lanka on 13 June.
