Colombo Cricket Club vs Moratuwa Sports Club

Moratuwa Sports Club started their SLC Under 23 Division One League Tournament in terrific fashion as they outclassed fancied Colombo Cricket Club by 100 runs at Maitland Crescent. 

Moratuwa needed to take 4 wickets when the play the resumed on day 3. They gave away only 44 runs in order to take the remaining 4 CCC wickets on the first session of play as Nipun Peiris and Sahan Nanayakkara captured three wickets each to torment the strong CCC batting lineup. 

Moratuwa (1st innings) – 174 all out in 57.2 overs : Shanuka Dulaj 41, Krishan Weeraratne 31, Chemila Obeysekere 28, Dhanuka Madushan 23, Lakshan Rangika 4/45, Sachithra Perera 2/15, Roshan Anuruddha 2/20

CCC (1st innings) – 82 all out in 22.1 overs : Hashan Dumindu 29, Thenuka Dhananjaya 5/33, Sahan Nanayakkara 3/13.

Moratuwa (2nd innings) – 188 all out in 63.2 overs : Shanuka Dulaj 68, Vihanga Kalhara 36, Madhawa Nimesh 21, Lakshan Rangika 5/77, Chenura Fernando 2/31, Hashan Dumindu 2/39.

CCC (2nd innings) – 180 all out in 44.2 overs : Lasith Abeyratne 62, Geshan Wimaladharma 40,  Nipun Peiris 3/25, Sahan Nanayakkara 3/21.

 

Ragama Cricket Club vs Sinhalease Sports Club

Left handed lower order batsman, Charith Fernando of Ragama CC displayed true grit and determination as he smashed 97 runs to make SSC chase down 82 runs to outright victory in their SLC Under 23 Division One League Tournament game played at SSC grounds. 

Visitors started day 3 on 164/7 and Charith Fernando added 87 runs with the tail-enders to give his bowlers something to work with. SSC opening pair of Pasindu Madushan and Vishwa Wijerathne had no trouble in getting their team over the victory line as they scripted an unbroken 1st wicket partnership to bring down the strong Ragama CC team. 

Ragama (1st innings) – 127 all out 32 overs Rosco Thattil 34, Binura Fernando 4/43, Kasun Madusanka 4/47, Dasun Shanaka 2/30. 

SSC (1st innings) – 300  all out in 79.1 overs : Sanka Ramesh 73, Kasun Madusanka 65, Kavindu Kulasekera 49, Minod Bhanuka 36, Pasindu Madushan 26, Amila Aponso 3 for 58.

Ragama (2nd innings) – 251 all out in 78.1 overs : Lahiru Milantha 61, Charith Fernando 97, Pasindu Madushan 3/34, Sanka Ramesh 3/41.

SSC (2nd innings) – 81 for no loss in 26.5 overs : Pasindu Madushan 32*, Vishwa Wijerathne 42*.

 

Nondescript Cricket Club vs Moors Sports Club

NCC had to be satisfied only with a first innings win as Moors SC fought back courageously to draw their SLC Under 23 Division One League Tournament match which concluded at Moors grounds.

Moors started day 3 on a peculiar position of 92/2 with still trailing by 7 runs. Skipper Shehan Jayasooriya led from the front as he stroked a masterful 87 runs while Ruwantha Kellepotha once again proved his worth with a fighting 76 runs as Moors posted 348 runs in their 2nd innings. Tharindu Kaushal performed once again with the ball taking 4 wickets for the visitors.

NCC ended on 170/2 in 18 overs at close of play, chasing a near impossible target of 251 in 18 overs. Pawan Devinda and Sandun Weerakkody batted aggressively for their unbeaten half-centuries.

Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club vs Air Force Sports Club

Pabasara Waduge smashed a brilliant double ton and Isuru Buddhika cracked an unbeaten 150 as Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club enjoyed final day’s play in their SLC Under 23 Division One League Tournament match against Air Force SC which concluded at P.Sara Oval grounds with the visitors registering a first innings win.

Tamil Union had to put up something special to finish the game on a high after the defending champions suffered a first innings loss against underdogs, Air Force SC. Right handed opening batsman Pabasara Waduge stroked one of the brilliant knocks of the weekend as he belted the Air Force bowling to all parts of the ground in his knock of 219 which consisted of 27 boundaries and 2 sixes. One drop batsman Isuru Buddhika scored a whirlwind unbeaten 150 as the pair put on 344 runs for the 2nd wicket. Tamil Union posted a mammoth 436 for 3 in 93 overs at stumps on day 3.

Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club vs Negombo Sports Club

Newly promoted and visiting Negombo SC ended their SLC Under 23 Division One League Tournament match against Bloomfield with major honours and the first inning win at Bloomfield grounds. 

Teenager Akeel Inham missed out on a well deserving century as the right handed opener was dismissed for 99 while middle order batsman Nilochana Perera scored an unbeaten 54 runs as Negombo SC posted 297 runs for the loss of 6 wickets before declaring their 2nd innings on day 3. Bloomfield fared reasonably well in their 2nd inning as the hosts scored 205 for 4 wickets in 48 overs as the game ended in a draw. Himasha Liyanage and Gihan Nimsara scored half-centuries for the home team.

Negombo (1st inn) – 246 all out in 85 overs : Akeel Inham 65, Srihan Anuruddika 57, Sewwinda Silva 52, Imran Khan 5/63, Koshan Jayawickrama 2/46, Vishwa Fernando 2/52)
