The University of Moratuwa took a clean sweep today at the 30th Inter University Regatta, held as part of the Sri Lanka University Games this year.

In the men’s category, UoM dominated from start to finish, amassing a 40-Nil victory against their hapless opponents.  They won the overall Stanley Wijesundara Challenge Shield for the second year in a row. They also retained the coveted Boat Race for the 6th consecutive year, winning with a time of 3:33 to Colombo’s 3:35.

UoC did manage to win the C Four and the Graduate Four as consolation prizes.

However the real excitement of the day was in the women’s category. The Moratuwa crew made history by winning the Lloyd Sirimanne Challenge Trophy for the first time ever. UoM won the A Scull, Pair and Four to gather 26 points to their opponents’ 16 points. There were some tight races in this category, with both the A scull and the B pair being won with just a second to spare.

The regatta was part of the wider Sri Lankan University Games that are being held for the 11th time this year. Only the men’s category was counted towards the SLUG total. The event was held at the Colombo Rowing Club and organised by the University of Moratuwa.
