Mobitel Books Slot in Quarter-Finals

Four matches of the 26th Mercantile Services Basketball League were played in and around Colombo yesterday. Mobitel placed themselves in the quarter-final stage with a win in their encounter while Millenium IT recorded their second win of their tournament. Here’s a brief look at what happened.

Mobitel v Sarva Intergrated

The E division encounter between the two teams was played at Hendry Pedris Stadium. The first half was a walk in the park for the in-form Mobitel team as they lead the game by eleven points into half time. The scoreboard read -23-12.

Thilina top scored in the game for Mobitel with fourteen points while Chamikara supported him with another thirteen points. It was Saajith who added ten points for Sarva Intergrated while Noor scored eight more points.

Continuing the dominanc e in the 2nd half, Mobitel scored another thirty-three points while Sarva Intergrated only managed another dozen. Mobitel topped their group with five wins and qualified to the quarter-final stage of the E division as the full time scoreboard read 53-24. 


Millennium IT v Abans Group

The E division encounter was played as the second match of the day at Hendry Pedris Stadium. Millenium It led the game by nine points into lemons as the scoreboard read 21-12.

Akila top scored in the game for Millennium IT  with 19 points as Fazal scored another twelve points. Segar managed to add ten points for Abans Group and he was lent a helping hand by Fareed who scored 8.

Millennium IT scored twenty-eight points in the second half of the game while Abans Group replied with twenty-five points. The early lead helped Millennium IT to record their second win of the tournament as the final scorecard read 37-49.


Amana Bank v Ceylon Tobacco

The E division match was played as the third match of the day at Otters Aquatic Club. Amana Bank trailed the game by ten points as the half-time scoreboard read 25-15 in favor of Ceylon Tobacco.

It was Malawatte who did most of the scoring for Ceylon Tobacco as he top scored in the game with thirty-one points. Chamath scored nineteen points for Amana Bank while Giwantha scored sixteen.

Even though Amana Bank trailed the game during the first half they scored thirty-seven points in the second half of the game while Ceylon Tobacco only scored twenty-one points. It was a close contest between both teams as Amana Bank won their third game by six points. The final scoreboard read 46-52.


Airport & Aviation v Aitken Spence

The E division encounter was played as the final encounter for the day at Otters Aquatic Club. Airport & Aviation trailed the game by six points into the first half of the game as the scoreboard read 27-21 in favor of Aitken Spence.

Both Anurddha and Silva scored twenty-two points each for Aitken Spence and Airport & Aviation respectively. De Silva added another thirteen points for Airport & Aviation while Dilshan scored twelve points for Aitken Spence.

Going into the second half of the game the contest grew tighter as Airport & Aviation scored thirty-five points and Aitken Spence added twenty-five points. Airport & Aviation came back into the game successfully as the final scoreboard read 56-51.
