After a disappointing week without play due to rain, three mercantile division ‘A’ & ‘B’ games were conducted on 7th October around Colombo and its suburbs.
Ragama CC opener Udara Jayasundara and NCC batsman Jehan Mubarak piloted MAS Active to victory over Commericial Credit while the match between John Keells Holdings and Sampath Bank at MCA grounds was called off without a ball bowled due to wet outfield conditions.
MAS Active vs Commercial Credit
Udara Jaysundara and Jehan Mubarak stroked valuable uneaten knocks of 56 and 46 respectively as MAS Active beat Commercial Credit by 8 wickets in a rain-marred MCA ‘A’ division game at Tyronne Fernando Stadium in Moratuwa.
The damp outfield reduced the game to a 28-over affair. The team in red, Commercial Credit could only muster 123 losing 6 wickets in their 28 overs. In-form young batting star, Kusal Mendis smashed 52 while Sachithra Senanayake and Charith Jayampathy grabbed 2 scalps each for the winning team.
MAS Active had no problem in chasing down the target due to some excellent batting knock by Udara Jayasundara and Jehan Mubarak.
Commercial Credit – 123/6 in 28 overs: Kusal Mendis 52, Prasad Dias 28*, Sachithra Senanayake 2/19, Charith Jayampathi 2/22.
MAS Active – 124/2 in 20 overs: Udara Jayasundara 56*, Jehan Mubarak 46*
MAS Linea Aqua vs LB Finance
Left-arm spinner Mangala Pradeep’s brilliant bowling performance of 7 for 24 helped MAS Linea Aqua clinch a comprehensive 5-wicket win over LB Finance at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.
Batting first, LB Finance were cruising at 180 for 3 at one stage but Pradeep’s excellent left-arm spin tormented LB Finance as they were bundled out for just 195. Former Josephian opener, Sadeera Samarawickrama made an elegant half-century.
MAS Linea Aqua’s chase was led by Former Trinity College captain, Dinuk Wickramanayake’s unbeaten 66. Leg-spinner Lakshan Rodrigo picked up 2 scalps.
LB Finance – 195 all out in 31.4 overs: Sadeera Samarawickrama 59, Lahiru Udana 36, Minod Banuka 35, Mangala Pradeep 7/24.
MAS Linea Aqua – 199/5 in 43.3 overs: Dinuk Wickramanayake 66*, Lakshan Rodrigo 2/18, Chathuranga Kumara 2/34.
Dimo vs Singer SL
Spin twins, Aravinda Premarathne and Matheesha Perera shared 6 wickets as Dimo notched up another win in their MCA ‘B’ division game against Singer SL played at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.
Off-spinner Premarathne and left-arm spinner Perera picked up 3 wickets each as Singer Sri Lanka were restricted to only 100 in 31 overs. Isuru Chamara made a fighting half-century.
Dimo in their chase was inspired by Ananda-Nalanda duo of Lakkana Jayasekara and Nipun Karunayake.
