Red Stars, Saunders, Maligawatte Youth and Renown secured three points on matchweek two of the Island League Football Tournament.

Red Stars, Saunders, Maligawatte Youth and Renown secured three points on matchweek two of the Island League Football Tournament at the Sugathadasa Stadium. 

Red Stars v Moragasmulla 

Red Stars defeated Moragasmulla 2-1 to make it two wins out of two. The winners found themselves down at half time after an own goal from Mohamed Ilham in the 20th minute. 

However, in the 2nd half Chamod Dilshan showed his strength and headed in the equalizer in the 60th minute and seven minutes later N.F.Fazullah gave Red Stars the lead and the eventual win.

Blue Star v Saunders 

Saunders came from a goal down to beat Blue Star 3-1. Blue Star led at half time courtesy of a goal from Shenal Sandesh in the 20th minute.  

After missing a few chances, Saunders finally found the equalizer in the 72nd minute through Sundaraj Niresh. Niresh would double the lead in the 82nd minute off a rebound from his penalty which was initially saved. Deep into added time he scored the 3rd to put the game to bed.

Renown v Java Lane 

Kavindu Ishan scored a brace as Renown won 2-1 against rivals Java Lane. After a goalless first half Kavindu Ishan scored a header in the 67th minute before D.N. Fernando equalized for Java Lane in the 85th minute. Ishan’s fantastic bicycle kick in the 90th minute saw Renown come away with the three-points.

New Star v Maligawatte Youth 

Maligawatte Youth defeated New Star 4-1 to get their first win of the tournament. It was New Star who took the lead in the 12th minute but thereafter Maligawatte Youth dominated proceedings. Mohamed Shafran scored the equalizer in the 41st minute to go into the break at 1-1.

Maligawatte added three more in the 2nd half with Mohamed Suhaib scoring in the 54th & 90+3rd minutes. Shafran scored his 2nd in the 72nd minute.
