Jave Lane prevailed in a seven goal thriller while Saunders needed a late goal to secure three-points on match day two of the Island League Football Tournament at the Sugathadasa Stadium. 

Saunders v Maligawatte Youth 

Saunders defeated Maligawatte Youth 1-0 to start their campaign with a win. Saunders had a few chances in the first half but the likes of Indreewa Udara, Pathum Gimhan squandered those opportunities.   

After a goalless first half it took Saunders until the 79th minute to find what eventually became the winning goal. It was substitute Abdul Azeez who converted from a cross down the right wing.

Java Lane v Moragasmulla 

Java Lane came out on top in a 7 goal classic which ended 4-3 against Moragasmulla. After being denied by the crossbar in the opening few minutes, Thisara De Silva gave Moragasmulla the lead in the 15th minute, from a low strike, past a diving Ashfaq Ayub. 

Minutes later, youngster Afeef Akram equalized for Java Lane finishing off a neat move down the wing. In the 36th minute captain Malaka Perera gave Java Lane the lead with a strike from outside the box. 

Just before half time De Silva equalized for Moragasmulla with a stunning strike, again from outside the box, slotting into the top corner.

At 2-2 it was Malaka Perera’s goals in the 69th and 77th minutes that gave Java Lane the advantage and even though Dilan Madusanka found a 3rd for Moragasmulla deep into added time there was not enough time to mount a comeback.
