Mercantile Cricket – 4 teams reach quarter-finals despite rain

The 25th Singer – MCA Knockout Cricket Tournament held its four pre-quarter finals in Colombo. Four matches…

The final was initially scheduled more than a week ago but due to bad weather the final saw plenty of postponements by the organizing committee.

On a nice, sunny and bright day, MAS Silueta skipper Buddhika Sanjeewa won the toss and elected to bowl first. Power Tech top order batsmen Dineth Thimodya and captain Lahiru Jayakody struck excellent fifties.

Former Peterite left-hander Thimodya made 53 off 90 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes while right-handed one drop batsman Jayakody struck a 90-ball 56. Former Nalandian captain Dasun Senevirathne made a quick-fire 28-ball 42 and despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Power Tech posted a commendable 247 from their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing 248 runs to win, former Peterite captain Shehan Fernando and wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Nilaksha gave the perfect start for MAS Silueta adding 95 for the opening wicket. Fernando blasted 5 sixes and 5 fours during his ballistic 54-ball 65 while Nilaksha took 72 balls for his 42.
