Maliyadeva Boys & Girls win Kurunegala U15 championship

Maliyadeva Boys College and Maliyadeva Girls College won the boys and girls categories in the Kurunegala area in the Samaposha U15 All Island Football Championship and progressed into the final round.

The matches were played on a league basis before going into a knockout stage at the Maligapitiya Grounds, Kurunegala.

Boys’ Category

From group A Nishshanka MV and Parakramabahu CC qualified for the knockout stage while Wayamba Royal and Madeena MMV qualified from group B. Royal International, Maliyadeva Boys and Lakdas De Mel and Maliyadeva Adarsha qualified from group C & D respectively.

In the first quarter final Maliyadeva Adarsha Vidyalaya defeated Royal International 2-0 while Maliyadeva Boys defeated Lakdas De Mel College 2-1 in the 2nd quarter final. It was Maliyadeva Boys who scored before Lakdas De Mel equalized in the first half. The winners scored in the 2nd half to seal the game.

In the 3rd quarter final Parakramabahu MV won 4-2 on penalties after the match ended 0-0 against Madeena MMV

In a thrilling 4th quarter final Nishshanka MV came from a goal down to equalize in the last minute and win 3-2 on penalties. At the end of the first half Wayamba Royal were leading 1-0 and it looked like they would win, before Nishshanka MV got a corner and it was curled into the goal to equalize in the final minute.

In the semi-final Jeevaka of Maliyadeva boys scored a stunning 6 goals, 3 in each half, as they cruised to the final defeating Nishshanka MV 6-0 and Maliyadeva Adarsha defeated Parakramabahu MV 3-0 to book the final place.

It was Jeevaka who was the star again for Maliyadeva Boys in the final as he scored another hat-trick. At half time it was 1-0 and Jeevaka added another two in the 2nd half. Jeevaka amassed a staggering 13 goals in the tournament.

Maliyadeva Boys and Maliyadeva Adarsha Vidyalaya qualified for the final round of the Samaposha U15 All Island Football Championship.

Girls’ Category

In the girls’ category there were only two groups where the top two went onto the semi-final.

From group A Kavisigamuwa MV and Parakramabahu CC qualified while from group B Maliyadeva Girls and Digmapitiya MV qualified.

It was an easy 5-0 win for Maliyadeva Girls in the 1st semi-final against Parakramabahu MV and Digampitiya MV won 2-0 against Kavisigamuwa MV with two 2nd half goals.

In the final Digampitiya had many chances but the goalkeeper for Maliyadeva Girls’ K.M.Mapa saved them all to keep her team in the game and Anjalika scored twice as Maliyadeva Girls’ won the final 2-0.

In the 3rd place match Kavisigamuwa MV got a walkover against Parakramabahu MV as Kavisigamuwa also qualified for the final round of the Samaposha U15 All Island Football Championship.
