With the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major League Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ segments coming to a close on the 18th of February, the focus is set to shift to white ball cricket right-away with the T20 tournament set to begin on the 24th of February.

The initial plan of SLC was to commence the four day provincial tournament to make sure the flow continued with red ball cricket, but now plans have been changed and the T20 and one day tournaments are set to be worked off from 24th February to the 25th of March.

Both tournaments will see 14 Tier A teams and 9 Tier B teams compete for a single trophy in each format. Three groups of six teams and one group of five have been structured for both tournaments with the top two teams from each group set to progress to the quarter finals.

Neutral venues have been scheduled for the T20’s while the venues for the one-dayers have not been finalized yet. The final of the T20 segment is set for 7th March and the one day segment is set to kick off on the 10th of March with the final scheduled for 25th of March.

The T20 tournament wasn’t played at all last season but with the possibility of the Sri Lanka Premier League returning, it will be a great opportunity for the up and coming cricketers, while the one day matches were played between districts and not clubs last time around.
