Mahinda over-power Nalanda

A devastating bowling effort by Thamitha Kalhara and Malith Mahela sealed a crushing nine wicket win for Mahinda College over Nalanda in their U-19 inter-school cricket match which concluded at Campbell Place today.

Kalhara who had six scalps for 42 runs to bowl Nalanda out for a miserable 109 in first innings added three more in the second innings for 33 runs to finish with a match bag of eight for 75 runs. However it was Malith Mahela who stunned the host with an imposing bowling effort in the second innings as Nalanda crumbled for 138 runs, leaving a target of 16 runs to win. 

Mahinda lost one wicket but were comfortably home. 

Mahinda resumed from their overnight score of 148 for five went onto put on a decent 231 on the back of a crafty century from Dulash Udayanga. Udayanga hit 13 boundaries in his 179-ball hundred where Mahinda took a first innings lead of 122 runs.  Pramud Hettiwatte and Kavindu Bandara picked up three wickets apiece
