Science College skipper Lasindu Ishan and Isipathana speedster Asitha Punchihewa have been called up to join the Sri Lanka U20 rugby 7’s squad. The junior Tuskers finished runners-up in the concluded Asia U20 7’s first leg in Malaysia last weekend. The second leg will kick off in Hong Kong on 21st & 22nd August.

Team manager Rajiv Perera stated to ThePapare.Com from Malaysia, “Boys did really well we had some controversial calls by the referee during the semifinal against the hosts Malaysia and in the final too, but boys are confident that they can beat the Hong Kong team although we lost to them twice in two close games. He added saying “we need a little more power in the breakdowns, Lasindu Ishan will perhaps can provide some of his talent in the second leg also we have called Asitha Punchihewa”.

The Tuskers certainly did well and especially Buddima Piyarathne of D.S. Senanayake was outstanding with his pace and individual brilliance. He was also the highest try scorer with six (6) tries in the first leg. Wesley duo Sithum Peiris and Chamika Kusal too provided some valuable tries along with captain Kevin Dixon.

Although these two have been called only winger Chamika Kusal of Wesley is having an hamstring issue. If he did not find fit Punchihewa to replace. However, the playing 12 for the second leg will be decided by Friday and the team will leave from Malaysia to Hong Kong on Wednesday.
