Ceylon Today Sports: Sri Lanka will be hoping to field over 70 athletes for the Asian Para Games which will be worked off from October 18 to 24 in Inchoen, Korea.

President of the National Federation of Sports for the Disabled Brigadier Rajitha Ampemohotti said that differently abled players should be provided with more opportunities to display their skills at international level.

He further noted that the differently abled players have won more medals and brought honour to the country compared to able players in recent international tournaments.

The President also said that some of the players listed to participate in the tournament are now training at the Jayathilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya and the rest at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama.

“The cost for this event would be around Rs 14 million and as usual we expect the Sports Ministry and private sector companies who always help differently abled sports to sponsor the contingent”.

“Most of the disable athletes for the games will be representing the three armed forces of Sri Lanka. They have scarified their legs, arms, eyes and many parts of their bodies”.

“This time we expect to win more medals from athletic and swimming. In the last Asian Para Games we won 12 medals,” added Rajitha Ampemohotti.
