Kingswood College Kandy kept their title hopes alive with a rousing 40 points to 8 points victory over S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia in their Singer Inter Schools Under 20 division one league rugby tournament match worked off at the Bogambara Stadium today.

The former league champions probably came out with their best performance for the current season as they completely dominated the game while collecting their points from five goals and one try after having led 19-3 at half time.

The Thomians seem to be still recovering from last week’s shock defeat at the hands of Science College Mount Lavinia as they struggled to get their act together well and managed to score just a solitary try and a penalty.

Kingswood’s fourth successive victory was also quite a significant one as it helped them to maintain their unbeaten record for the current season and to finish on top of the points table with more tries to their tally.

In fact Kingswood College planted three tries in the first half and added three more in the second half which fully justified their class and authority while giving them that extra confidence to face their opponents in the second round of the championship.

The home side got things underway in style with back to back tries from V. Jaleel and C. Weerasekera with skipper Wijesingthe adding the extra points to put them on course for a comfortable victory.

Kingswood College scored their third try through S. Mohamed few minutes later before S. Thomas’ College reduced the deficit with an unconverted try from S. M. de Silva almost with the stroke of half time.

Kingswood College went on to dominate the entire second half with V. Jaleel adding two more tries to his tally which was followed by a try each from I. P. Kumara and P. de Silva.

Skipper Wijesinghe also had an excellent game as he successfully converted five of the six tries as Kingswood College topped the 40 point mark for the second time following their massive 50-10 triumph over the home town rivals Dharmaraja College.
