The second Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh commenced today (30th March) at Chattogram.
Sri Lanka Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and opted to bat first, making one change to their playing XI from the previous game. The speedster Asitha Fernando returned to the side, replacing the injured Kasun Rajitha.
Sri Lanka’s opening pair Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka managed to provide a solid to the inning, adding 88 runs in the first session of the day. The host bowlers were unable to create enough to trouble the Sri Lankan batters.
Madushka, who notched up his second Test half-century, ran himself out after the Lunch break. Karunaratne, who was looking very good, unfortunately missed out on a well-deserved century as he dragged one back onto the stumps of the bowling off Hasan Mahmud.
Kusal Mendis then took the baton and went on to score his 18th Test half-century. Mendis batted positively, showing great intent, but he too fell short of his ton as Shakib Al Hasan dismissed him for 93 runs.
Angelo Mathews, who batted at No. 4, looked a little off colour and was dismissed for 23 runs off the bowling of seamer Hasan Mahmud.
De Silva and Dinesh Chandimal looked solid and kept out everything thrown at them as they built an unbeaten 25-run partnership for the 5th wicket before the Umpires called stumps on Day 1.
