Kandy SC determined to make their mark at the West Asian Club Championship

Reigning league champions and Sri Lankan Rugby powerhouse Kandy Sports Club will be representing Sri Lanka at the Asia Rugby Western Clubs Champions League tournament which will be held from 2nd to the 9th of September in the UAE.

Held for the second consecutive year, this tournament aims at providing the best clubs of the west international region a chance to match themselves up against the best from the region. Recent championship winning teams from the UAE & Kazakhstan will battle out against Kandy SC to become the best club rugby team in West Asia.

Kandy Sports Club, led by the dynamic half back Roshan Weeraratne, will be hoping to do one better this time around having lost 17-26 to Doha RFC in the tournament final last year. It will be a tough challenge for the lads from the hill capital competing against big names like Abu Dhabi Harlequins, who will be well equipped in their own back yard. Kandy will be without their star playmaker Fazil Marija who is nursing an injury and will likely miss the services of Anuradha Wilwara, Nigel Ratwatte, Shehan Pathirana & Gayan Weerarathne due to Injury.

Kandy will open their campaign against the Abu Dhabi Harlequins on the 06th of September and will take on the Exile’s on the 09th of September. It will be a good pre-season experience for the Kandy outfit against international opposition before the commencement of the Dialog Rugby league 2016/17 and will also provide the ideal platform for the likes of Dhanuska Ranjan, Kanchana Ramanayake and Jason Dissanayake, the new signings for Kandy Sports club, who will make their first appearance for the Hill capital club.
