Kandy Sports Club continued to set the pace as CR & FC remain closely in second place, as the Club Rugby League takes a week’s break for Christmas.

Kandy Sports Club sit pretty on top of the pile with CR behind them in second place. Meanwhile, the Havelocks are in third place following their week 2 defeat to CH, and the Maitland Cresent lads sit in fourth place, rounding off the top four of the Club Rugby League.

CR v Air Force at Longdon Place

CR hosted Air Force in terrible conditions, having the week 3 action kicking off to a damp start.

The home team’s superior first half show helped them get over the line as the game took a different look during the second 40-minutes.

The home team scored 4 of their 5 trues during the first half as they capitalized on a sloppy Air Force outfit, putting the game to bed in torrential downpour at the home of Rugby.

Air Force tightened their defense, hoping to make a difference in the second half: however, it was too little too late as the horse had already bolted.

CR hung on to secure their third win and moving up to first on the table temporarily, till Kandy hosted the cops later that week.

Navy v CH & FC at Welisara

A grudge match was played down at Welisara, as the visitors surprised a depleted at Navy outfit. The home team lost a whole set of players to CH and other clubs during the off season, and this has come back to haunt them with 3 defeats in as many matches.

CH got off to a sublime start as they scored multiple times before Navy were able to get off the mark. This meant the Hosts were chasing the game.

Navy failed to disturb the Visitors much as they managed just two converted tries in reply to CH’s 5 tries.

CH secured their first bonus point victory as they settle in following a tough first game with 2 wins off 3 games, and are sitting pretty at number 4 on the table.

Navy, meanwhile, are languishing at the foot of the table in eighth position with new backroom staff Viper Gunarathne and Co. searching for answers on how to revive their season.

Havelocks v Army at Havelock Park

Havelocks and Army played out a thriller at the Park, arguably the game of the season so far.

The home team got off to a flyer, scoring 33 first half points, leaving the visiting Soldiers shell-shocked. Army managed just a single converted try in reply to Havelock in the first 40.

In a rain drenched second half, Army made a stellar comeback, almost securing the game. There is a question of whether the final Army try went unconverted, or whether it was in controversial fashion as the visitor were handed a slender two point defeat.

This defeat meant that the Soliders too are yet to win a game and are 0 from 3.

Kandy SC v Police SC at Nittawela

Pace setters Kandy have not had the best of starts. However, in Champion fashion, the Defending Champions have managed to secure 3 wins out of 3, managing to get the job done this far.

Police posed a threat in phases of the game, but Kandy were too strong in all aspects as they managed to secure the win thanks to a inspiring performance by Tarinda Rattwatte. The centre bagged a double, kicking over 4 conversions as well to add the cherry on top of the cake.

Police were out-played in all aspects, even though they shone time and time again. The bounce of the ball too did not go the way of the Cops as they had to settle for their second defeat in 3 games.
