Week Two of the Maliban Inter Club Rugby League 2025/26 delivered another compelling round of action, marked by weather disruptions, dominant forward battles, and emphatic statements from the league’s top contenders. From CR & FC’s rain-curtailed yet commanding display to Air Force’s unbeaten momentum, Havelocks’ clinical resurgence, and defending champions Kandy making a powerful first appearance, the weekend once again showcased the competition’s intensity.

Red Shirts Dominate Before Rain Calls Time

Full Time: CR & FC 19–00 Army SC

CR & FC asserted early control in Panagoda before adverse weather forced officials to call off the match at halftime. Skipper Lasindu Karunathilake opened the scoring off a strong scrum setup, while hooker Venura Kodagoda added the second through a well-structured maul. Veteran No. 8 Omalka Gunaratne powered over for their third try as CR’s forwards handled the wet conditions superbly. Army produced a few promising passages but were kept out by disciplined goal-line defence. With heavy rain making the ground unsafe, CR were declared winners—without the bonus point.

Rathnayake’s Hat-Trick Keeps Air Force Unbeaten

Full Time: Police SC 17–26 Air Force SC

Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club maintained their perfect start with a composed win over Police SC at Police Park. Hooker Parakrama Rathnayake stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick—two tries from pick-and-drive power and a third off a textbook rolling maul. Shenal Lithira added a classy kick-chase finish after scrum-half Vishual Akalanka exposed space at the back. Police crossed three times but were undone by handling errors and a costly yellow card. Lightning brought the match to an early halt, confirming Air Force’s well-earned victory.

The scoring was shared among Shehan Silva, Janidu Wijeratne, Charana Sendanayake, Chathura Dilshan, and a sharp late double from Jayathu Rajarathne as the Havies took complete control in the second half. Samuel Maduwantha delivered a flawless night from the tee, nailing all six conversions. Siri Lions showed sparks through a try, a penalty, and a long-range drop goal, but struggled to withstand Havelocks’ pace and precision.
