Kalinga, Aruna and Nadeesha qualify for 400m finals

The Sri Lankan Athletics team commenced their events in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on Friday (29th September).

Commencing Sri Lankan athletes in the Track & Field events, Nadeesha Ramanayake registered a timing of 52:67 sec to become the 2nd place in the Women’s 400m – Heat 2.

In the Men’s 400m Heat 1 – Kalinga Kumarage won the race clocking 45:57 sec, registering the 2nd best timing in all three heats. In the Men’s 400 Heat 3 – Aruna Dharshana finished with a timing of 46:07 sec to end on the 3rd place and secured a place in the final.

Ramanayake will compete in the 6th Lane in the Women’s 400m Final at 5.30pm (SL time) followed by Kumarage and Dharshana, who will start in 7th and 2nd Lanes respectively in the Men’s 400m Final at 5.40pm (SL time).

In Athletics, Sri Lanka have not won a medal in Asian Games since 2006. So far in the 19th Asian Games, Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team bagged a Silver Medal.
